CV Wins 2nd Straight City Title

Castle Rock, CO

The Castle View Sabercats entered into Friday's night game confident.  By the end of the 1st half, this confidence was put to the test after committing 3 turn-overs and falling behind by 10 points.

"We knew that many games were about winning the half", stated Senior Safety Levi Verry.  "We knew that if we could come out strong in the second half and string together some drives, we would be okay".

Castle View did exactly this.  Kicking off in the 2nd half, the CV Defense came up big by intercepting a pass which gave the Sabercats excellent field position.  Several plays later, CV found themselves at the 1-yard line for a First and Goal.  After 2 questionable spots, CV punched it on 4th and Goal to cut the lead to 3.

On the ensuing possession, DC was aided by several CV penalties and scored after an 80 yd drive.  But on the very next play, CV broke the game wide open and changed the momentum of the game when Dominic Ursetta returned a kick 94 yards for a TD.  The sell-out crowd, which seemed to favor the visiting Sabercats exploded in a furious roar and set the CV Defense up to have their way with the Huskies for the remainder of the game.

CV would score again on a long sustained drive which was contributed to by Sophmore Avery Jackson.  Jackson gave the offense a spark of speed while Jaylen Jackson battered and bruised his way down the field, eventually catching a TD pass from Senior QB Davin Thompson.

The win capped an emotionally charged week on campus and throughout the community as 2016 marked the first season that these two rivals squared off this early in the season.  With the victory, the Sabercats have now won 2 in a row and have nearly evened the series (Huskies 3-2 lifetime).

Fans, players and coaches were jubilant as CV took their second straight City Title and continued to make claim that Castle Rock is indeed Cat Country.
