Cats Claw Back, Finish Dramatically

Castle Rock, CO

The Castle View Sabercats overcame a 21-7 halftime deficit to defeat the Rocky Mountain Lobos in Overtime on Friday.

Spurred on by some huge Special Teams play and a monstrous effort by Senior Jack Kane, the Sabercat Defense held the Lobos to no points in the second half of regulation to force Overtime.  Senior Brayden Lucero returned to the lineup on Friday and punched in the first score of OT, followed by a good extra point try by David Gonzalez.  On the subsequent possession, Rocky scored on its first play, but failed to convert on the Point After as Junior Jackson Smith blocked the try, thus delivering the win to CV.

The CV offense was improved tonight with the return of Sophomore Avery Jackson, who busted a 75+ yard touchdown run in the 1st quarter.  Also contributing at key times were Cole Amen and Andrew Locken with solid Offensive Line play led by standout Nolan Laufenberg.  Special Teams contributed mightily once again as Jack Kane blocked a punt which was recovered in the end zone for a Castle View TD and field position was established via the leg of David Gonzalez once again.

The Sabercats kept their playoff hopes alive tonight and will now turn their focus to one of the state’s best teams in Eagle Crest, which will be televised on Altitude Sports next Friday.

Freshmen and JV will travel to Fort Collins in the morning for games vs Rocky Mountain at French Field.
