Castle View football standout and 2016 co-captain, Levi Verry spoke of the importance of family after recently signing his letter of intent to play for Luther College.  “My family has supported me every step of the way, especially my parents. When I was playing at the youth level, they were there for everything, and I am not exaggerating that one bit. They would sit hours upon hours for practices as well as games. How they did that for my brother and I, all the while having to work, is hard to comprehend.”

Levi’s parents, Jason and Tracy are both very excited for Levi to be attending Luther College. “We couldn't be more proud of all the accomplishments Levi has achieved, both in the class room & on the football field, stated Jason Verry. He continued, “getting to experience this process with Levi was very exciting, realizing all the hard work and effort that he has worked so hard for, especially these past 4 years.  Following his dreams to continue to play football became so real for us as parents”.

The CV Senior also spoke extensively about his football family, citing his favorite memories as a Sabercat. “Beating DC for a second straight year was amazing.  The first time as a Junior was great, but to do it again as a Senior was special.”  Levi continued, “I will always remember the relationships that I have built with not only the players, but the coaches as well. They have made my experience in this program the most memorable experience and for that, I am beyond grateful for.”

When Verry speaks of a ‘Football Family’, it is not just in a figurative context as his younger brother, Bryson emerged as a varsity contributor in 2016.  During a televised game, Levi completed a 40-yard pass to Bryson on a fake punt.  “It is a touching and special memory for me”, acknowledged Levi.

“I chose Luther because it felt like it was home for me.  The coaches made me feel like I was worth the extra time that they had spent with my dad and I, showing us around campus, introducing us to coaches, as well as having a short film session. On the plane ride back, I had a gut-feeling that this was the place.”

Verry hopes to potentially pursue a career in Law and places a strong emphasis in not only competing for a starting position on the football field, but to excel in the classroom in college.  “What is important to me, is to be able to succeed in life. I want to go get a quality college education so I can land a great job for me and hopefully, my future family. I want to be able to take care of my parents when they are in need. I want to be able to guide my brother in the right direction so he can be better than I am. My family is what is most important to me.”

“Watching your kids grow up and move into the next chapter as parents can be a very difficult and sad, but yet fill you with a sense of pride. You have to embrace these moments and the time you have with them, continue to give them support, advice and never stop giving them your love”, stated Mrs. Verry.

Levi offered advice to other student-athletes looking to go to the next level, “Start as early as you can. Begin gathering film together your freshman year, and continue to update your Hudl weekly. Game after game. The hardest part about going to play football at the next level is to get noticed”.  He continued, “recruiters have so many players to look at.  Reach out to these schools and recruiters yourself. Do not wait until they contact you or for your head coach to make calls for you. It is on you, and that is the ultimate test to see whether or not you actually want to play at the next level.”
