The Castle View football team has been working hard this summer, conditioning for their upcoming season.  This past Friday, that conditioning came in handy as several members of the team donated time and talent to assist one of Douglas County’s finest.  Douglas County Detective Dan Brite was severely injured in the line of duty in September of 2016.

Detective Brite recently had a home built to accommodate his wheelchair, however, landscaping was not included in the new home construction.  Members of the Castle View football team were made aware of Detective Brite’s situation and decided to get involved.  Senior leaders on the team coordinated volunteers and arranged for donations.   A donation from Purple Heart Homes of Colorado allowed the purchase of much of the landscaping materials.  The team members also installed a sprinkler system, and even leveled a spot for the family’s trampoline.  The team also arranged for discounts from several other suppliers to complete this phase of the project. 

The players came out on their day off to complete the work.  Senior Lineman Andrew Grout was more than willing to volunteer, “I have an Uncle and several cousins that are law enforcement officers, so this is personal to me.  It gives us a sense of pride to do this; it’s the least we can do to give back”.  Senior Landon Williams was proud to be amongst the volunteers, "it was a truly amazing experience getting out in the community and showing our town that we genuinely care about those in need... we loved being able to help Detective Brite with the landscaping on his new house". 

The efforts to benefit Detective Brite are not completed.  Over the next few weeks, the team will continue to work on donations for trees, shrubs and plants to complete the project for the Brite family.
