Senior left guard Ryan Joas has been successful both on the wrestling mats and on the football field during his four years at Castle View High School. As a second-year wrestler he made first team all-conference and placed 6th at the Regional level. This year he hopes to equal his past success on the mats and make all conference on the field as well. While working on his personal goal Ryan would love to see his football team win in the post season.

When asked to reflect on what football has taught him about life, Ryan identifies that individual success can lead to team success. He feels that football has taught him “that I can always be better. Even if you’re the best at something, why not try and become better and try and help the people around you to be better.” Ryan credits a former Castle View football coach for his football inspiration. “Tom Ashworth was a really big mentor of mine last year when he coached. He was super passionate about the game and really tried to help Castle View in any way he could.” Joas’s hard work and team player mentality has caught head coach Todd Casebier’s attention. “Ryan is getting better as the year progresses. He has the ability to play college football. He works hard and cares about his team and is very unselfish.”

Although interested in playing football in college, Ryan is undecided about where he might play. “I would like to play but I don’t know where, I would really play anywhere.” Once in college he is interested in studying math but plans to explore his options.

Ryan lives at home with his mother Cheri Joas, and lots of brothers. His older brother Erich age 19, and two younger brothers Nicholas age 13 and Adam age 11. If having four boys at home was not enough chaos the family also includes three dogs, Abby, Kylo and Kota.

When not playing football, Ryan likes all things football. He enjoys spending time with “the guys from the offensive line and getting food. We all get together and play Madden, talk about football and our favorite football memories so far.” Ryan’s personal favorite memory from this season was when all the Castle View players rushed the field after scoring in the last few seconds of the game to beat Wasatch. Perhaps a playoff victory in the 2018 post season can recreate a similar memory for the Castle View football program.
