Cats Make School History with Playoff Win

Castle Rock, CO

The Castle View Football program is continuing their historic march as they achieved yet another milestone on Saturday at DCS Stadium in Castle Rock.  With the win over Fountain Fort Carson, CV captured the school’s first ever 5A post-season victory.  The team improves to 8-3, which doubles the win total from any other 5A season in school history.

“This was a team win.  Our defense wanted to get the offense on the field so they could do their thing.  Each unit played great football”, stated co-captain, Landon Williams.

The Defense played one of their best games bottling up a dangerous Fountain Fort Carson offense who had averaged nearly 30 points per game in the regular season.  The defensive effort was led by cornerback Bryson Verry who had multiple tackles and an interception.  Connor Kelly and Cole Oster each logged 10 tackles in the win.

On the Offense, Josh Mullenix played great once again, scoring once on a sneak from the 6 yard line in the 4th quarter and picking up big yardage on a keep earlier in the game.

Jordan Jackson was the Workhorse, who punished the FFC defense, averaging over 5 yards per carry and scoring 2 Touchdowns and 101 yds.  Zane Woodark logged 97 yards on 22 carries.  Cole Oster, flirting with the 1000 yd rushing mark prior to the game, punched out 2 touchdowns and a reception.  Oster now has 1250+ total yards on the year.  Jackson and Oster have combined for over 2000 yards rushing and 30 Touchdowns on the year.

“Our line was and has been key to our success all year”, stated Oster.  “We believe this is the best line and set of blocking receivers in the state of Colorado and they continually prove it.”

Tight End Josh Pinello stated, “This was a total team victory. Offense, Defense and Special Teams.  Everyone did their job.” Pinello described the situation in the 2nd quarter when he picked up huge yardage.  “It was fourth down and Coach called Timeout.  He just emphasized that everyone needed to do their job.  Ryan Joas had a great block and Justin Klos made a sweet hook block that was able to spring me.”

Since June, when this team fiercely competed with #2 ranked Columbine (10-0) at CSU-Pueblo’s week-long camp, it has managed to improve every single week.  While Columbine edged Castle View in the championship game in June, Castle View at times was dominant throughout the week, giving this team a great deal of confidence going into this week’s match-up.

The Sabercats will face Cherry Creek (9-1) on Friday night at the Stutler Bowl in Greenwood Village.
