Castle Rock, CO

Over 400 people gathered in Castle Rock on Tuesday to commemorate the CV Football team's historic season.

The Sabercats finished the year with an 8-4 record, doubling its previous season best at 5A, winning its first ever playoff game in the classification.  While the team was recognized as a whole, individual performers were also acknowledged for their contributions and accolades on a league and state basis.  They are listed below:

Sean Fegan –1st Team All-League, Academic All-State

Sean Fegan was a key contributor to the team in 2018. The Defensive Back produced a number of interceptions, while also being a top 3 tackler.  Fegan is also a strong student, landing himself an Academic All-State nod.

Andrew Grout – 1st Team All-League

Grout collected his 4th year letter while snagging his second All-League award in 2018.  He is a highly sought after college prospect, and was a co-captain of the team.

Connor Kelly – Sabercat Award Winner, Academic All-State, 1st Team All-League

2018 marks the first time in Castle View history that a student has won the Sabercat award 2 times.  This award is this highest honor for a Castle View athlete as it recognizes the demonstration of leadership on and off the field.  Despite missing 3 games to injury, Kelly led the team in tackles, making him an obvious choice for 1st team All-League honors, which is his second consecutive year accomplishing the feat.  Kelly was a co-captain of the team

Cole Oster – Team MVP, Academic All-State, 1st Team All-League, League Athlete of the Month (October)

Oster had an impressive year to say the least. He led the team in scoring with 17 touchdowns and three 2-pt conversions with over 1000 yards rushing, totaling 1400+ total yards.  On the defensive side of the ball, Oster was the team leader in sacks and led the team in take-aways while being a top-3 tackler. Oster now has been awarded All-League honors on both Offense and Defense, an achievement not often accomplished by any player.  Oster was also recognized as the South Metro League "Athlete of the Month" in October along with his 2nd consecutive Academic All-State award. His performance in 2018 earned him the team’s Most Valuable Player honors.  Oster was a co-captain of the team.

Landon Williams – 1st Team All-League

The 3rd year letter winner played both Offense and Defense throughout the season and proved dominant on both sides of the ball.  His exceptional defensive play earned him 1st Team All-League honors. Williams was a co-captain on the team.

Cade Cushman- 2nd Team All-League, Academic All-State

Cade Cushman led the team in receptions in 2018 and proved to be an invaluable player both on offense and special teams.  Cushman became an accomplished blocker throughout the season which undoubtedly led to the teams outstanding offensive performance through the year.

Jordon Jackson – 2nd Team All-League, League Athlete of the Month (September)

Jackson became what many call the breakout player of the year landing him All-League honors and the Athlete of the Month for the league in September.  Jackson had 17 touchdowns and over 1000 yards rushing.  Jackson, one of two Juniors who landed All-League honors will be an integral part of the Sabercats success in 2019.

Ryan Joas – 2nd Team All-League

Joas had another strong year and was a key part of the Sabercats offensive success in 2018.  Joas collected his first All-League award and is contemplating a college career in football.

Josh Pinello – 2nd Team All-League

Pinello, the other Junior grabbing All-League honors also had a breakout year, scoring 5 touchdowns and making 12 big catches on the year.  Pinello will also be a key factor in the Sabercats 2019 road to the playoffs.

Josh Mullenix – All-League Honorable Mention

Connor Obrien - All-League Honorable Mention, Academic All-State

Bryson Verry - All-League Honorable Mention

In a league that has three “Power Five” college quarterback prospects, it is incredible to get a nod as a quarterback or as a defensive back.  CV’s Quarterback and Cornerbacks did just that.  Mullenix carefully guided one of the best offenses in the state to success while O’Brien and Verry defended against some of the best quarterbacks in the state.

Coach Todd Casebier – South Metro League Coach of the Year, Mile High Sports Coach of the Year, Colorado Preps Coach of the Year

A 21-year head coaching veteran led the Sabercats to massive success in his first year at Castle View. The team went 8-4 and won its first ever 5A playoff game.
