Helms Headed East

Castle Rock, CO

Heath Helms is headed to Nebraska-Kearney to continue his football career and education. Helms shared some of his thoughts on his decision on National Signing Day.

"I chose Nebraska Kearny because I felt at home there and that I was already apart of a family."  The 6'5, 215 lb standout Linebacker felt as if the coaches seemed like great father figures and would develop him into a better football player and a great man.

Family is important to Helms as he emphasized the important role both of his parents have played in his development as a man and a football player.  He cited some of his best memories as those when he was coached by his dad in youth Football. "I loved that my dad coached me as he is my biggest supporter. It was just cool for me to grow with him."

His father, Ryan Helms, describes Heath as a "disciplined player who loves to hit hard".  Anyone who watched Helms on the field would have to agree with the statement.  Heath Helms was one of the hardest hitting LB's in the state of Colorado.

Despite the reputation as a savage defender on the football field, Helms father went on to describe Heath as "a charming young man who tends to get along well with older generations."

Helms will be attending UNK to complete his undergraduate in computer sciences with hopes of moving into cyber security.

Heath concluded, "I am most excited about going to college and being on a special team with great potential. We are going to do great things".
